How do you maintain?

I have always been a creative person, but over the past few years I've seem to have lost touch with my creative side. Not that I wanted to, I just lost the time to do it as I got older. It seems as a child we spend the most time playing, creating and imagining wonderful things. Sadly as we get older responsibilities pluck that "free" time away and we are left with next to nothing. I long for a life of an artist, somewhere in a small crafty cottage with my tea and biscuits, but reality and responsibility bring me back down from my cloud to a grounded world where working and paying bills is how we spend most of our lives. How do we find balance between both worlds? How do we maintain our artisticness? Growing up we are so intrigued by new media and tecniques but what does one do to get back into the groove when we have been away for a while and feel like we have forgotten so many methods and tricks? Do I take a class? Do I open up my old art books and take a trip down memory lane? Do I pull all of my art supplies from their dusty corners and give them a little pep talk?

So this is what I have decided to start with, my Blog. Here I can see new ideas and methods from fellow bloggers. I can read what inspires all of you and hope to find the same inspiration in my life. I want to come back, I want to feel the glue on my hands, the brush stokes on the page, I want to hear the humming of my sewing machine and I want to see the reactions of the ones I love around me when I give them my hand made gifts from my heart. Here's hoping I am sucessful.

Trust me, you're not the only one feeling this!! Its getting better now, but the artsy stuff was really getting the back burner for me until lately.

I hope you find the inspiration you need here in blogland. It's certainly been a huge help to me.

Lisa, thanks so much for the sweet and personal comments you've left for me in the last few days. They've been so helpful, and I really appreciate it. I'm so glad you decided to start blogging, cant wait to see what all you come up with!

As little kids, almost everyone played with crayons and made drawings for mommy, when we get older the crayons get taken away and we have to be 'responsible' and 'mature'. For me, crayons, and all other tools for being creative are part of me being 'responsible' and 'mature'. It's who i am. I tried the other, corporate, way of living. It didn't feel good.

Hope you find your artistic side again. Get that box of crayons!

Just jump straight back in, play with things, create with reckless abandon. Don't worry about methods or classes. Be a little kid when it comes to crafting... it's so liberating compared to everyday work and life.

Welcome back to crafting :)
